Looming solar tariff has deeply affected solar demand in 2017. The U.S International Trade Commission ruled foreign made solar panels have negatively affected the US solar manufactures. Their 500-page report looks in to the operations of 16 domestic solar panel manufacturers from 2012 to 2016. You can find the report here.
The good folks at Home Made Modern show us how to build a solar powered workshop. In this video they build a workshop from scratch and fit it with a renewable energy system to power the entire shed.
Check out this interesting build.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are currently developing what could be the future of solar energy.
Traditional solar cells only absorb a specific range of the light spectrum. For this reason most solar cells on the market have a maximum efficiency of 30%. Much of the energy from sunlight is lost, while only a small range of the entire spectrum is captured and ultimately turned into electricity.
At this year’s solar power international – energy storage companies came out in full force from around the globe. A variety of energy storage solutions were on display this year. Many well-known players looked to establish themselves firmly in the market, while several up and coming companies also showcased their offerings. Here are some of the players that caught our team’s attention.
This year’s Solar Power International Convention was much smaller than previous years. We can probably contribute this to the gloom around renewable energy legislation. Donald Trump and his administration aren’t doing the solar industry any favors at the moment.
Nonetheless there were a number of innovative exhibitors this year showing us what the future of solar energy holds! Here were some notable themes and exhibitors from this year’s convention.
Climate change concerns are top of mind as news of an iceberg splitting from the continent of Antartica spreads across the internet.
Communities Committed to 100% Renewable Energy
Remarkable progress is being made across the US to drive our society towards a more sustainable and reliable version of itself through renewable technologies. Legislation across the US on the state, city, and county levels are passing renewable energy mandates that will completely remove these communities off fossil fuel dependency. To date, a total of 25 US cities have committed to producing 100% of its energy from renewables sources. These sources primarily consist of hydroelectric, solar, and wind.
Solar Battery Companies To Watch
Solar, seen by many as a primary renewable energy source of the future, still has one major flaw. What happens at night when the sun isn't shining? The rise of batteries for energy storage offers a viable solution to this problem. Producing energy at night from renewable sources in now a reality for many.
Beautiful Solar Architecture
Communities of the future are being created all around us. Our infrastructure is being reimagined with sustainability and self reliance at the fore front. This does not have to come at the expense of aesthetics. A common objection to solar panels and renewable technology is that they looking bulky and unattractive. As new building and installation techniques are developed - we are starting to see how solar can be integrated seamlessly into our everyday lives.
Solar in NYC
Gone are the days in which solar was just for hippes or environmentalist. Energy from solar photovoltaic technology is becoming a powerful force in our world’s energy production portfolio. Owning a solar PV (photovoltaic) energy system is a means to take your energy production into your own hands. Instead of relying on utility companies to provide energy, who jack up your costs at will. Many property owners have decided to produce their own energy. You can use that energy yourself or you can sell that energy. Like a farmers milking his/her cow, photovoltaic system owners pump energy into the energy grid to reap the benefits.
